AOB4-Feedback from focus group

I presented my music video treatment to the class. Within the class a focus group of 5 people gave me some written feedback. They were asked to write down 3 words that came to mind when thinking about the mood that the music video and the lyrics created.  The responses I got were anger, lies, thoughts, confusion, running, escape, guilt, cinematic, sad, literal and chaotic. I feel that a high proportion of these words were a good indicator of the mood that I wanted the video to have. The comments that I received were generally along the lines of my video having a good mix of narrative and performance which follows the conventions of this music genre. I tried to be creative with my ideas by including special effects, like the band performing on the letter as it is taken from the envelope which people in my focus group said was a very good idea. Some of the members commented on what they perceived my use of a good use colours and images in the treatment.

On the negative side, some members of the focus group thought that the storyline was difficult to follow. However I am not sure that I agree with them. Maybe the use of a pictorial story board in subsequent focus groups would help get my ideas across without causing any confusion. I would have preferred the members in the focus group to be of a more varied age range as this would mean that there would be a more varied taste in music and therefore give a wider opinion on the video. My focus group was predominantly males and maybe the theme of my video e.g. a couple in a relationship who are at odds with each other, did not appeal to them. Maybe a focus group consisting of more girls would have given me a different response. The target audience for Linkin Park is definitely male dominated and so the theme of my video did not appeal to their taste.

The focus group commented in a positive way on my presentational skills saying that I looked at the audience while talking and tried not to read directly from the blog.

To sum up, I feel my idea of the video was well received and I am pleased with the feedback.
